Marona – meaning 'our mother' - is a tribute to the late Queen Mother, the mother of King Letsie III. The design was launched in 2015. We have it available in 3 colour ways. This is a lovely design with the crown and the heart. The pattern is reversible, as are all Basotho blankets. The Victoria England is the oldest of the Basotho blanket brands.  The spitfire is in commemoration of the Lesotho war effort, designs with aerial views of spitfires parked in formation. Lesotho raised the funds for the R.A.F  to manufacture 24 spitfires and to establish the Basotho squadron during the 2nd World War.   Available Colours:  Red and Black Blue and Black Size: 155x165cm Fabric: 50% Wool 50% Draylon Acrylic Care: The best way to wash is to hand wash with coarse salt (the salt removes the dirt and keeps the fabric soft). Mojafela (the heir) In 1860, King Moshoeshoe I, the founder of the kingdom of Lesotho, was given a wool blanket as a gift by Queen Victoria. He was very taken with it and soon abandoned his traditional leopard-skin kaross in favour of the blanket. In 1867, the Moshoeshoe approached Queen Victoria asking for Lesotho to become a British protectorate following skirmishes with Boers migrating Northwards into the interior. The crown represents the history between King Moshoeshoe and Queen Victoria and England. The Seanamarena brand is today considered the "Royal Crown Jewel" of all the Basotho blankets. This brand dates back to the 1930’s when it was created by the late Mr Charles Hendry Robertson who owned a trading store in Leribe called Seanamarena. The word ‘Seanamarena’ means ‘to swear by the Chiefs’. The Collection features the famous Poone design with its corncob motif. In the Basotho culture the corncob is a symbol of fertility and wealth. The chromatic design derives its name from its creator’s initials C.H.R.
