Young Designers Collection 2026: Maqhubu (Brown / Light blue)

The name of this blanket is Maqhubu—a name that is deeply personal to me. It is inspired by my artist’s name, Wave Rhyder, and carries a powerful meaning: no matter what life may bring, I have the strength to ride through it.Maqhubu, meaning “waves,” represents resilience and triumph over adversity. 

Just as waves rise and fall yet never lose their rhythm, so too can we overcome every challenge and emerge stronger. It is a reminder that whatever obstacles come your way, you have the power to rise above them. This blanket is more than just a garment—it is a symbol of protection and strength. When you wear Maqhubu, it becomes a shield, empowering you to face the world with courage and confidence. There is a Sotho hymn that says, “u nka mpalamise Maqhubu nts’ike ka liatla,” expressing a plea for guidance and safe passage through life’s trials.

As a young Sotho designer, I embrace this spirit—I ride the waves with pride, standing tall, wrapped in Maqhubu.

Fabric: 50% Wool 50% Acrylic

Care: The best way to wash is to hand wash with coarse salt (the salt removes the dirt and keeps the fabric soft). However, it can be washed in the washing machine at a cool temperature - do not exceed 30 degrees Celsius.
